Tribal Consultation

At OSMRE, we are committed to inviting Tribes to consult on a government-to-government basis whenever OSMRE is considering any proposed actions, including regulations, rulemakings, policies, guidance, legislative proposals, plans, programmatic or operational activities, or changes to grant or funding formulas, that may have a substantial direct effect on a Tribe. We know that robust consultations are the cornerstones of our relationships with tribal governments and strive to invite Tribes to consult early in the planning process and throughout the decision-making process and to engage in robust, interactive, pre-decisional, informative, and transparent consultations.

OSMRE hosts consultations with Tribal Nations to:

  • Honor our nation-to-nation relationship.
  • Hear directly from Tribal leaders as we address the health, economic, racial justice, and climate crises — all of which disproportionately impact American Indians and Alaska Natives.
  • To commit ourselves to a process that addresses Tribal needs and ensures we respect and take input to heart.

Upcoming formal tribal consultations will be posted here.
